Energy, data and IT environment of transmission systems
Part-time study takes place through participation in three weekend teaching days in autumn 2026. Video books and written study materials are also available. Knowledge verification and practice take place in the uuCourseKit application, where the final tests are also available. The in-person format also includes an independent project, which you will work on throughout the duration of the micro-credential.

Course outline
- Basic characteristics of the electricity market, principles of market functioning in relation to physical processes, historical context, the role of market participants.
- Basic legislative standards related to electricity trade at the level of the Czech Republic and the EU.
- Physical properties of transmission, types of power plants and their properties, basic principles of transmission system planning, types and characteristics of production sources.
- Description of system and support services, analysis of important services such as Frequency Containment Reserves, Frequency Restoration Reserves and Reserve Replacement.
- Real-time system management, Smart Grids - SmartMetering, SmartHome, SmartGrids in the Czech Republic.
- Basic principles of the liberalized electricity market, access to networks, market organization, registration and financial settlement of trades, risk management, trading on stock exchanges, measurement, evaluation and settlement of deviations.
- Transmission capacities as limited resources, calculation of free capacities, auctions of cross-border capacities, participation of stock exchanges in cross-border trading.
- Planning of international electricity exchanges, Use of netting, Financial settlement.
- International Settlement of Deviations, Compensation for Transit Transfers, Transparency of Cross-Border Trade.
- Definition of a state of emergency, tools for solutions, control stages, examples of real states of emergency.
- Contracts on regulated access, between suppliers and customers, the basic form of contracts for final customers.
- The need for regulation, methods of price regulation
- Significance for transmission system operators, basic division, technologies, communication protocols, work with data.
- Acceptance of measured values, communication protocols, validation, aggregation, substitution, statistics, exports.
- Evidence of data on end consumers - measured values, change of electricity supplier, etc., data processing, access rights, link to smart grids.
- Security calculations over big data, data exchange within the European network.
