About the course

This micro-credential provides a practical introduction to software testing, with a focus on manual testing and the basic principles of test automation. Students will learn the fundamental concepts and principles of testing, as well as how to design and implement test scenarios when testing web applications and APIs.
During the course, participants will practice designing test cases, manually testing frontend and backend functionalities, and working with selected testing and automation tools. The course also covers basic work with REST APIs, data formats (JSON, XML), databases, and test automation tools.
The course concludes with a practical workshop in which participants apply the knowledge they have gained to design and execute tests on a sample application.

Course Content and Schedule

Block 1
1. Module: Junior manual tester
  • Time commitment: 36 hours + homework (9 lessons)
  • Job description: A manual tester is generally responsible for designing test scenarios based on application specifications, as well as for executing tests, evaluating results, and reporting any bugs or deficiencies found in the software under test.
Skills every manual tester should master:
  • Requirements analysis
  • Creating test cases based on specifications
  • Manual execution and evaluation of results
  • Reporting found defects
  • Knowledge of basic testing principles
2. Module: Junior automation tester
  • Time commitment: 44 hours + homework (11 lessons)
  • Job description: An automation tester is generally responsible for designing and developing automated software tests throughout the development cycle. This allows the testing team to quickly assess the stability of the deployed version.
Skills every automation tester should master:
  • Designing and developing automated tests in a selected testing framework
  • Collaborating with developers and analysts
  • Identifying issues found (a failed test is not always due to an error in the source code of the tested application)
  • Actively following news and trends in the field of automation
  • Basic knowledge of a programming language such as JavaScript, Java, or others is a plus.
