Research in AI and Data Analysis
Unicorn University (UU) carries out independent, cutting-edge research in the field of complex data processing using artificial intelligence, with an application focus on developing smart software components. The primary goal of research at UU is to advance knowledge in data analysis, artificial intelligence, and software development. In its scientific work, UU reflects the latest developments in these fields and selects research topics with regard to their potential to push the boundaries of human understanding.
Research Connected to Practice

The areas studied are also partly motivated by real-world problems that the university encounters through its extensive scientific collaborations with both research institutions and the corporate sector. The main aim of this research is to extend the possibilities of existing methods and to design new ones for current and emerging challenges. Thanks to its broad cooperation with industry, the university has insight into the latest complex problems across various areas of human activity. This not only provides motivation for scientific work on relevant topics, but also offers opportunities for thorough testing of newly designed methods on real data.

Linking Research with Study
Scientific activity at Unicorn University is closely connected with the focus of its study programmes. It helps to develop and modernise the content of study programmes as well as the expertise of academic staff in the subjects they teach. This ensures that the most recent findings are directly integrated into teaching and that knowledge transfer from research to students is effective. In addition to this knowledge transfer, Unicorn University also disseminates the results of its research through conferences – for example, by long-term organisation of the Unicorn University Open conference, as well as through co-organisation of international scientific conferences (see the News and Events section). Furthermore, the professional public is informed about research outcomes through seminars held by individual research groups (see the Research Teams sectio).

Main Research Areas

The main research areas primarily reflect the use of AI in complex systems working with sophisticated data, where components are integrated into platforms that provide AI functionalities as services or modules. This raises a range of requirements, including performance and sensitivity. Many of these topics are supported by grant projects.

Research teams

Unicorn University’s research teams consist of carefully selected experts in individual areas, enabling the successful implementation of the research tasks mentioned above.

  • Applicability of AI methods to tasks with complex data
  • Student analytics and its enhancement using AI methods
  • Modern software development
  • Economic and econometric methods in sparse and complex data settings
  • Data analysis and AI in the social sciences

Selected Research Partners

Unicorn University focuses on carrying out scientific projects on the most current topics, including projects in cooperation with leading research institutions in the Czech Republic and abroad — both public universities and institutes of the Academy of Sciences, as well as foreign institutions — see examples of key partners below.
  • CERN Research Centre (DO-32248/EP/ATLAS)
  • Institute of Computer Science, the Czech Academy of Sciences
  • Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC) CTU
  • University of Chemistry and Technology (UCT) Prague
  • Institute of Philosophy, the Czech Academy of Sciences

Sharing Scientific Results and Gaining Motivation

In addition to its own scientific work, Unicorn University strives to disseminate research results within the academic community while also actively drawing motivation for its research activities from industry experts. The primary means of achieving the first goal is through Selected publications. To gain inspiration, as well as to share current trends in science and research applicable to industry, the university organises the Unicorn University Open Conference.
