The course provides students with a basic overview of microeconomics. Specifically, the principles of demand and supply decisions in the market for goods and services and in factor markets. The study of the course gives students insight into the general principles of seeking the most efficient use of scarce resources using market mechanisms (market equilibrium) and optimization (with constraints, without constraints).
Upon completion of the course, students will understand the basic building blocks of contemporary microeconomics - optimizing household and firm behavior, the constitution of equilibrium in markets, and the issues of market failures, income distribution, and microeconomic public policy.
