Corporate Finance Management

The course provides a complex view of building substantial aspects of financial management of corporate processes. Students grasp the main concepts, tools and methods of managing corporate finance and their use in decision-making. The course emphasizes assessment of the financial performance of an enterprise, taxation and its impact on financial decisions of enterprises, the value of money in time, short- and long-term management and investment decisions. Beside all that, students learn the controlling essentials – techniques, tools and methods of controlling and can apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in solving practical controlling problems.

Course outline

The essence of financial management and financial targets of an enterprise.
The value of money in time and its application in corporate finance management.
The position of financial analysis and planning in corporate management. Users of financial analysis and their information needs, financial analysis of an enterprise.
Methodological approaches to financial analysis. Ways of calculation, interpretation and their application.
Tax essentials, brief description of the tax system in the Czech Republic, corporate income tax.
Employee and self-employment taxation, including insurance (from the viewpoint of a corporation as an employer or self-employment), VAT, road tax and property tax (from business viewpoint only).
Short-term financial management. Inventory, receivable, finance management. Alternatives for short-term funding.
Long-term financial management. Financial structure management. Alternatives for long-term funding.
Capital planning and investment decision-making.
Controlling, term, essence, importance, efficiency of controlling, strategic and operative controlling.
Risk, the concept of risk, types, methods of measuring, impact on financial decisions.
Distribution of financial results, dividend policies.
