Unicorn University granted 150 microcredentials in 2025

Unicorn University has already awarded 150 micro-credentials this year. The new form of education is growing fast—especially in software development

Prague, [17 September 2025] — Since the beginning of the year, more than 150 Unicorn University graduates have earned a micro-credential. Interest in this modern form of education is coming not only from international companies but also from Czech businesses and individuals—from beginners to senior specialists.

Micro-credentials: a fast, practical, and modern path to new skills
A micro-credential is a short (typically six-month), intensive, and highly specialized learning program at higher-education level. Over the course of several weeks or months, participants gain targeted knowledge and skills. Study is delivered in a hybrid format: self-study and recorded lectures are combined with interactive consultations with instructors and work in a learning application. This makes the instruction flexible, practical, and easy to fit around work and personal commitments.
“Micro-credentials are still relatively new in the Czech Republic, but their benefits are becoming clear very quickly. Companies appreciate that employees can top up what they need for a new role—whether in marketing, sales, or people leadership—without having to enroll in a full long-form degree. And individuals often say it’s a great way to move forward, try a modern mode of learning, and quickly gain something that helps them on the job market right away,” says Ing. Strongest demand: software development, product management, and AI fundamentals
The first runs of micro-credentials focused primarily on software development—application architecture and design. This reflects company demand to rapidly strengthen technical teams with up-to-date competencies. Additional runs of uuApp Designer and uuApp Developer are therefore opening this fall.
Companies in manufacturing particularly value the Product Manager micro-credential, which helps prepare new leaders—typically technical specialists moving into management roles. The program teaches them to connect development expertise with marketing, sales, and the basics of business management.

A boost for graduates and career-changers
Micro-credentials are also proving highly beneficial for secondary and university graduates who want to strengthen their position on the job market quickly, as well as for career-changers seeking a new path. Thanks to the hybrid and online format, study can be combined with work and personal responsibilities. A micro-credential often serves as a first step toward further education—whether aimed at professional growth or toward a formal university degree.

New courses from October
“Given the popularity of micro-credentials and based on student feedback, we are opening new courses from October—Product Manager, Strategic Marketing, and Basics of Tax and Accounting. A micro-credential in AI Fundamentals will follow later in the fall, developed in cooperation with the Unicorn Research Centre and the law firm Legitas,” adds Ing. Klára Benešová.
