“I learned coding without previous experience. I found a job in the industry before finishing my studies."
About Alex
Alexandr Kozlov is a student of the Software Development bachelor study program. Once he studied biochemistry at another university, but then he decided to switch his field of study and go for code writing, even with no previous experience. However, Unicorn University taught Alexandr everything he needed.
Humane Approach Instead of Bureaucracy
After 4 years of study at another institution of higher learning, Alex can make comparisons between universities. And his opinion is quite clear. “It’s like coming from hell straight to heaven”, he says. He particularly likes the practical lessons, the teamwork, and the attitude of Unicorn University teachers and its student administration office. “You will encounter no bureaucracy here, but rather a humane approach. I like it when they teach us to work in teams or to manage our time, even passively. Unlike with other schools, to do nothing is not an option. There are projects here which take an entire semester to complete and everybody must pull their weight or the project fails,” he explains.
Internship with Business Partners
Alex got the chance to work at Unicorn, joining a project for an insurance company, Pojišťovna VZP, and was really glad for his project-oriented lectures. "Thanks to the university lectures I had no problem joining a team, as I knew how to become a team member and I had already mastered Git. It would not be an easy thing to learn all this on the fly,” he says. At present, he works on a project for a Japanese investment company, TORANOTEC, developing a new version of its investment application.
A Few Words from Alex
"I’ve decided to attend Unicorn University on the recommendation of a friend. He told me if I’d like to learn writing web application, this was my best shot. I would definitely recommend it. Even though I came from a completely different background and had no programming experience, I learned code writing at Unicorn University, and got a job in the industry without a hitch after my sophomore year. Now I earn my living by doing what I enjoy, the IT.”
